A letter from the borderline personality to all humanity.

I write fairly frequently about my own struggles with mental health and this post really spoke to me – especially when this author writes “I am not sorry that I have a mental health disorder. However, I am sorry if I have hurt you in some way. I do not even understand me yet, but I am working on it; day by day, moment by moment.”

Walking Through It.

No one knows what it is like to be me, to walk where I have walked; to think my thoughts. no one knows how hard it is for me to make a choice and follow though with it. Yes, I am what you call “Flaky” this is because my mind sometimes will not let me follow through with something. Anxiety, fear, self-doubt, paranoia, absolute panic, depression and black and white thinking… ALL start to chatter in my head and will not let me stay stable and stick to something.

You say that I am not “normal”  I say; “there is no such thing as normal”. You say; “Mental health does not exist.” I say; “Lets ignore the person with the heart attack then, let that person die.” Ignoring my mental health is a death sentence for me. You call my behavior an “excuse” , I call it “I am trying”…

What a borderline personality breakdown looks like

How they fell in love

You traded your ship for me?

Saltwater

“Suppose that particular night never happened, the way a wave crashing ashore empties itself and trickles back in separate communities, mingling yet aloof, a diminishing cortege.”

O at the Edges

Saltwater

What if you close your eyes
and your throat relinquishes

the morning’s bright
fingers, freed from bruises.

Suppose that particular night
never happened, the way

a wave crashing ashore
empties itself and trickles

back in separate communities,
mingling yet aloof, a

diminishing cortege. What
is the question? Take this

spoon. Fill it with saltwater.
Upend it into the pail. Observe.

“Saltwater” was first published inNine Muses Poetry in May 2018.

GRACE, NOT PERFECTION !

Even if you can’t see it, its possible. You have more in you than what you realize. The power from within is from God and not from us. (2 Corinthians 4:7)

The Godly Chic Diaries

He transformed my mind and steadied my walk, so I may fearlessly climb mountains. (Psalm 18:33)

I hold myself to a standard of grace, not perfection. This year has been one of the toughest and most challenging regarding my faith and trust in God. It’s humbling because at times you think you are stronger than you are. Then the Lord shows you “Ahhhh we still have work to do…”

How many times have you accepted defeat before even trying?!? We are so quick to limit ourselves, deciding who we are and who we aren’t and that’s it. We accept the world’s made-up rules for which we are supposed to be, and believe we cannot break theses rules. Some stay stuck. Stuck in the expectations of others. Stuck going through motions. Stuck knowing there has to be something more. We stay in our little identity boxes, not allowing ourselves to ‘stretch…

The Colors of Autumn in the Midwest

Where in the Midwest or elsewhere would you recommend going to capture the colors of Autumn?

Please share your ideas in the comments below 🙂

The Adventures of elATLboy

It’s a time of transition in the Midwestern United States and other cooler climates. The transition between summer and winter, warm weather and cold, frappuccinos and hot apple cider, baseball and football and leaving and going to work in the sun to in the dark. It’s Autumn.

Another thing that is changing is deciduous trees are going from green and lively to bare. One of the things that makes me and many others happy is what happens in-between. Let’s call it the colors of Autumn.

Recently I’ve gone around parts of Michigan and Ohio to capture these Autumn colors. Now that’s what a hard frost looks like!

A close up shot of the previous tree. Orange and yellow, beautiful.

Along with frost on the ground (and car windows ahhhh) comes a cool Autumn mist hovering over the water. Well unfortunately after the leaves changing color, the time will come for…

Normal

“Fake it til you make it. There’s some good life advice. I’ll try and fake being normal. There, now that’s some sound advice… Isn’t it?”

Waking Up with Depression and Anxiety, a play in one act.

“ME: *turning off my alarm* Feeling pretty good about myself today!

DEPRESSION: Really? Did you forget about all the sad and/embarrassing things that have happened in your life? “

Kari Rhymes with Atari

[CURTAIN RISES]

ME: *turning off my alarm* Feeling pretty good about myself today!

DEPRESSION: Really? Did you forget about all the sad and/embarrassing things that have happened in your life?

ME: No, I didn’t forget, I just-

DEPRESSION: Remember that time in ninth grade when someone wrote something mean about you in your friend’s yearbook?

ME: Well I’d rather not, but yes I do remember that. Thanks.

DEPRESSION: I could do this all day! In fact, I think I will. Remember back in high school when that friend of yours died? Remember that time at work when you made a mistake and everyone laughed at you?

ME: I remember. Please stop bringing these things up. There’s nothing I can do about them now except feel sad.

DEPRESSION: Maybe you should sit down and draw a cartoon or write something. That would make you feel better.

ME: That’s a good idea.

Things I’m Afraid My Cats Will Someday Say To Me

img_0242.pngI don’t talk to my cats, because I’m not a crazy cat lady.  Okay, I do talk to my cats, but I’m still not a crazy cat lady because they don’t answer me.  In English.  Yet.  I worry that someday they will, though, and here are some of the things I’m afraid they might say to me:
